Nathaniel's academy classmates.

I had only a few friends in grade school, high school and college. At one point in my life, I am sure that I desired to have more. Maybe I wanted to be like the student who had several other students surrounding them...hanging on their every word. It is a weird, considering that I am naturally shy. As I grew older I realized that, it is not the quantity of friends. It is the quality. Good friends or priceless. But self-centered "friends" aren't really friends at all.

I will start with Nathaniel's first friend. The first friend he makes at the Union Academy. Her name is Angela Roberts. She too is an advanced human. She is special like Nathaniel, and like Nathaniel her mind and body over compensates for it. Nathaniel stutters. Angela falls asleep at the drop of a hat. But she doesn't let that slow her down. She enjoys horseback riding and cheerleading. She looks like your average valley school teenager, but she is far from it. She is as tough as they come. She adjust well to Union Academy and does what she can to help Nathaniel adjust. How does Nathaniel, a kid from Mississippi with an oddly shaped afro make friends with Angela, a girl from Montana? Sometimes, people have to be put into a common situation, before they realize how much they have in common.

Next time, I will talk about Kagome Wu, the first person Nathaniel meets from Union Academy.

awkwarian running

I was talking about exercising yesterday. And as weird as it may sound one of my favorite exercises is running. It is weird because I am a terrible running. In fact what I do is closer to plodding. Anyway, running itself seems like a decent analogy to life. I mean in some form it seems like everything we do is like a race. And we can either rush and try to pass everyone or we could slow down and just enjoy the ride. In both life and running, you are going to use a combination of the two.
Speaking of running, in my novel, Savant, there is a school, Union Academy. At this school you have to be very fit. They will even change the environment to train you. Can you imagine that? You are running along as hard as you can and all of a sudden the gravity decreases and you are literally floating on air or worse, the gravity increases.... Well imagine if you were an Awkwarian. They are from the planet Awkwar. Awkwar is pretty much a water planet were the people or blue skinned and accustomed to swimming--not running. Of course they have the ability to adapt just like anyone else. But given the choice they would rather swim.

Things to do.

Good Morning! Ahhh it is great day to go exercise. But who has time for that! Well I will make time. I realized recently. That you never have time to do the things you need to do. You never have time to study. You never have time to meditate. You never have time to read. You never have time write. You never have time to excercise. You never, you never, you never.... But then it occured to me. Maybe you are not meant to HAVE time for these things. Maybe you are meant to MAKE time for these things. So, I am going to make time for the things I need to do. Like exercise. I will get on that next week. LOL!

Nathaniel's wish

Just an observation. It really is wonderful to live in this world. It is tough sometimes. Sometimes it is down right sad. But it is always great to be alive, because at least you have hope. In my novel, Savant, Nathaniel Devereaux always held out hope that he would one day have a friend. That is why he asked his parents for a puppy. He always felt...he always hoped that a puppy would be a good friend even if he wasn't much for conversation. After all, Nathaniel wasn't much for conversation either....

I just wanted to share this with the world.

BLACK ROSE WRITING
Presents
Savant by Frank D. Rogers

VARIOUS LOCATIONS, USA (Black Rose Writing) September, 2009 – Black Rose Writing is pleased to announce that Savant by Frank D. Rogers is now available for purchase from www.blackrosewriting.com or any online bookstores, including the Ingram book catalogue.

Nathaniel Devereaux has the highest grades in the eighth grade. He has won the student of the year award twice now, yet his classmates and some of his teachers belittle him. Why? Because he stutters.

Sometimes Nathaniel doesn’t even bother talking because most people are not patient enough to hear what he has to say. Moreover, those who are, listen only to have something to joke about later. His life is miserable, but everything changes when his parents send him to a special school for the gifted that promises to help him with his speech impediment.

When Nathaniel is enrolled into a school surrounded by an asteroid field, things aren’t always as they seem. Nathaniel not only finds friends from across the universe, he also finds adventure and a strength he never knew he had. He will forever be changed for the better, if he survives….
